Current Inspirations

Some of my current inspirations for my series Elegy are: Jaguars, indigenous patterns, and masks. Several of these images are from the American Indian Museum here in New York City. Besides the issues I have with museums and their history with taking and holding indigenous people's things, I sometimes go there to do research. Research, research, and research is super important when you are retelling our stories. Gotta know where I am getting my patterns from and what meanings or stories they are telling.
On another note it's still amazing to me that I can be so close to a piece of art that my ancestors sculpted thousands of years ago (the Pipil sculpture on top left). It is truly sacred and beautiful.
